Nine years ago, Ricardo Lasa passed on an offer to relocate to Silicon Valley, choosing instead to be an entrepreneur. This decision seems to be paying off because he is now emerging as a homegrown success story in the Tampa Bay technology community.

Mr. Lasa not only built his company in Tampa Bay, he also employs local talent from the University of South Florida and other surrounding schools. Overcoming the challenges of building a technology company outside Silicon Valley, he has a story to tell.

While the journey has been curvy and arduous, Lasa and Web Piston/Rivergy, with support from the University of South Florida and other local organizations, is finding great success. After graduating from the University of South Florida with an MBA and a master's degree in MIS (management information systems) in 1998, Mr. Lasa founded the Web Solution Company, known as Rivergy, Inc.

Determined to utilize local resources and build a successful technology company in Tampa, Mr. Lasa recruited outstanding MIS students from USF, whom he discovered while teaching.

Rivergy has worked with distinguished organizations such as Centro Ybor, USF Connect and the Don CeSar.
